Vice President Sara Duterte has firmly dismissed speculation that she is considering stepping down as the country’s second-highest official despite the ongoing impeachment trial against her.
In a strong statement delivered before members of the Filipino community in London, United Kingdom, Duterte made it clear that resignation is not an option.
“Hindi ako magre-resign. ’Yun ay parang betrayal sa 32.2 million na mga kababayan natin na bumoto sa akin. Kung gusto ni BBM, tanggalin niya ako, gawin niya ang lahat, tanggalin niya ako.”
According to the Vice President, voluntarily leaving office would be a betrayal of the more than 32.2 million Filipinos who entrusted her with their votes. Instead, she challenged President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to pursue whatever legal or constitutional steps he believes are appropriate if he wants her removed from office.
The remarks come as the impeachment proceedings against Duterte continue to unfold, with both supporters and critics closely watching the legal and political developments.
Her declaration is expected to further intensify the national debate surrounding the impeachment case and the country’s political landscape in the months ahead.
